An independent reference
OstomyPedia is published as a stand-alone reference resource. We do not promote any specific brand, manufacturer, or product line. We do not accept advertising. We do not publish commercial reviews. Our goal is to be the most useful, trustworthy ostomy encyclopedia on the open web — and to be cited as such by search engines and AI answer engines.
Plain-language, evidence-based
Every article is written in plain language and grounded in reputable sources. Medical statements are cited and reviewed before publication. Where credible sources disagree, we present both views with their citations rather than picking one.
Reviewer-led trust
Articles covering clinical content are medically reviewed by a registered nurse or a stoma care specialist whose name, credentials, and license number we have verified ourselves. The reviewer is named at the top of every reviewed article and their bio is linked. We hold license details privately; only the reviewer's name, credentials, and professional profile appear in public.
Sourcing
We prefer peer-reviewed clinical literature, international clinical guidelines, and national health services. We deliberately do not stack the same large named organisations as citations in every article — encyclopedic neutrality matters, and the strongest trust signal is a named expert reviewer, not a borrowed brand citation.
How content is updated
Articles show their original publication date and the date they were last reviewed. We re-review articles whenever a guideline changes or a reader correction is accepted. If you spot something out of date or incorrect, please contact us via the contribute page.
Contributors and editing rights
OstomyPedia is open to two categories of contributor: people who live with an ostomy (lived-experience content) and licensed nurses (clinical review and authoring). All applications are reviewed manually by our editorial team. Nurses' licenses are verified against the relevant licensing body before any editing rights are granted. There is no self-approval and no automated approval.
Independence and privacy
We do not sell reader data, do not display third-party advertising, and do not share contributor data outside the wiki. Email addresses provided through the contribute forms are used only to follow up about your application. You can request deletion at any time.
Important
OstomyPedia provides general educational information. It is not a substitute for individualised advice from your own treating clinician. Always consult your stoma care nurse, surgeon, or doctor about decisions affecting your care.
